Year 2 – Skylark Class

Welcome to Skylark Class!

In Skylark Class, you will find Year 2s. On Mondays and Tuesdays, Miss Williams teaches us. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, Miss Spain teaches us. Throughout the week, Mrs Langer and Mrs Haynes support us with our learning. This term, we are lucky because we also have an associate teacher, Mrs Clode-Walters, working with us.

We are an active and enthusiastic class who love outdoor learning, so we try to take at least one of our lessons outside each day, as well as doing our Daily 15 (which we can change into our trainers for).

In Maths, we are focusing on place value with 2-digit numbers. We have been using lots of concrete resources (Base-10, Numicon and counters) to help us.

Our current class story is ‘Trolls Go Home’ and this is linked to our literacy book, ‘Troll Swap’. We have enjoyed designing, and writing about, our own trolls. We also have daily Kinetic Letters (handwriting), phonics and guided reading sessions.

This term, we have started our topic about toys. We really enjoyed our launch day, where we got to dress up and bring in our favourite toys to discuss with others. We have been linking our topic work to our science learning, thinking about different materials and their properties.

We love sharing our achievements and learning through Class Dojo with our parents/carers so be sure to keep checking our profiles for updates.

Important things to remember:

PE – Monday afternoon (with Miss Smith)

Outdoor learning – we try to have an outdoor learning opportunity every day, but our allocated day to use the forest area is a Thursday, so be sure to have your waterproofs and wellies on this day

Homework given out on a Friday and handed in on a Tuesday

Reading books and diaries – books are changed on a Friday and diaries are checked on a Monday. Please aim to read together for 10-15 minutes each day; this can be one of our 2 decodable stories (matched to our individual phonics level) or a shared text that we can enjoy together.
