Years 3 and 4 – Kingfisher Class

Welcome to Kingfisher Class!

Welcome to Kingfisher Class. In Kingfisher Class you will find Year 3s and Year 4s, as well as our Teacher Miss Cavell, and our Teaching Assistants Mrs Moseley and Miss Vigon. Our classroom has lots of space, engaging displays that show our individual and class work, and we also have a cosy reading corner.

This term we are learning about the Industrial Revolution, this is where huge changes happened particularly when it came to factories and the mass production of products. This changed Britain massively. We are also learning about sound and electricity in Science. In Art we are studying William Morris and his method of Block Printing, we are enjoying learning about this and are looking forward to having a go at doing our own printing. We will also spend some of this term exploring some Shropshire and Welsh Hills as part of Geography.

We are reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes during our story time as well as using this during our guided reading lessons. Next we will be reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.

As part of our literacy work we are studying Gorilla by Anthony Browne. Our focus for this book is to write a Narrative but we are also learning lots of factual information about Gorillas.

Important things to remember:

PE – Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon (with Miss Smith)

Homework – given out on a Friday and handed in on a Tuesday

Reading books and diaries – children can change their books when they have finished them and completed their Accelerated Reader quiz; diaries are checked on a Monday. Please aim to read together for 10-15 minutes each day.
