It was Assessment Week recently, and we were incredibly proud of every single Kingfisher. The children showed superb effort, resilience and positivity, truly living out our class motto, βTry your best, be the best version of you.β π
There was lots of excitement as our Battle of the Books titles arrived. All Year 3 and 4 children across the Trust helped choose the three books, and Kingfishers could not wait to pick the first one to take home. We introduced a simple libraryβstyle system so everyone could enjoy all three, and the enthusiasm was wonderful to see.
In Science, we became biologists, examining animal skulls and using teeth to work out each creatureβs diet. We also explored food chains, heading outside to roleβplay snowshoe hares and lynx, helping the children understand how prey and predator populations change together π¬
In History, we learned why the Romans invaded Britain and what made their army so powerful. Kingfishers recreated formations and roleβplayed being a Celtic tribe deciding whether to fight or make peace with the Romans, leading to fantastic debate and teamwork.
In PE, we were introduced to a brand new sport, Boccia. This precision throwing game, full of tactics and accuracy, was a huge hit with the children π―

Recently, we welcomed the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service for a special visit, where the children learned all about fire safety and what to do in an emergency. They were fascinated to discover that firefighters do so much more than put out fires, including helping at road traffic accidents, rescuing animals, supporting during floods and promoting safety across the community π
In English, the children have been diving deeper into their topic on blue whales, using their poetry skills to create fantastic whale poems. They confidently included command sentences, similes, prepositional phrases and some brilliant onomatopoeia, showing just how creative they can be.
In PE, all their skills were put to the test during a dodgeball tournament, with throwing, dodging at speed, tactics and teamwork on full display, alongside excellent sportsmanship and growing confidence.
To celebrate National Science Week, learning was doubled up with hands on investigations into keeping our teeth clean and healthy, followed by joining the NFU Live Science Lesson. The children explored farming and revisited states of matter through learning about cows and sugar beet, making strong real world links to their science learning π¬
Kingfishers have also proudly agreed on a new class motto, βTry your best, be the best version of you,β and have embraced a brand new multiplication challenge alongside the Reading Challenge. The class is showing fantastic determination as they work together towards their goal, truly living out their motto every day.

Robin Class had a fantastic adventure at Fordhall Organic Farm, with a day full of hands on learning and fun πΌ
The children loved meeting the lambs, piglets and calves, making it a truly special experience for everyone. They also planted their own sweet peas to take home and watch grow, enjoyed an egg hunt around the gardens and even joined in with a very wiggly worm dance, where the worms really did come up to say hello πππ
The sunshine stayed with us all day, making it even more memorable. A huge thank you to everyone at Fordhall Farm for such a wonderful visit, we had the best time βοΈ

It was great to catch up with our Movement Mentors last week, who were full of brilliant ideas for developing fitness across the school πͺ
The children have worked together to create a rota where they will lead fun fitness activities at break times, with house points up for grabs for the team that can complete the most repetitions of a chosen exercise in one minute. This weekβs challenge is star jumps, and the excitement is already building β
We are so proud to see the children taking leadership, encouraging others and championing healthy, active play.
This week has been full of Easter excitement - the children have loved exploring our focus story Happy Easter from The Crayons as we learned about colours, creativity and celebration. π¨
They have also enjoyed designing their own Easter eggs using different shapes and bright colours which has been a lovely way to build fine motor skills and imagination.
In phonics we have been singing Round and Round the Garden and focusing on the phoneme d, practising recognising, saying and using it in lots of words.
In maths the children have revisited everything we have learned this term including comparing tall and short and heavy and light through practical, hands on fun. π£

A huge thank you to our brilliant One Voice children and their families who came along to help with our Great Big School Clean. Arthur, Ben B, Noah, Olly, Hattie, Lauren, Evie and Robin really were the A team, tackling a long list of jobs and somehow getting through every single one with enthusiasm and teamwork π
We are so grateful to this small but mighty group who gave up their Saturday morning to help others, which is exactly what the Great Big School Clean is all about. Their hard work has made such a difference and the school is now looking superb for the summer.
A special thank you to our staff, Mrs Foxall and Mrs Dakin, and to the long suffering partner of Ms Reynolds for coming along to lend a hand too. It was a lovely morning that showed the power of a committed community.
We hope even more families will join us next time. Our school shines brightest when we all take part!
