Year 1/2. In Skylark class, we soar to new heights with learning that’s as exciting as it is educational. In Year 1/2 we are nurtured under the caring wings of Mrs Leighton, our dedicated teacher who guide skylarks in their learning journey.
Supported by the wonderful Mrs Cooper, Miss Pemberton & Mrs Kirk, our classroom is a vibrant community where every child is encouraged to be independent and curious. We believe in hands-on experiences, creative exploration, and fostering a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
Morning Mastery: Each day starts with maths to build number fluency and confidence. We use Kinetic Letters for handwriting, Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised for phonics, and Curious Quests and Pathways to Write to inspire reading and writing through exciting literary adventures.
Afternoon Discoveries: Afternoons are filled with engaging wider curriculum activities that spark curiosity and a love of learning.
Daily Worship: As a church school, we take part in daily worship, either together as a whole school or within class. This helps us celebrate our faith and school values: love, respect, faith, fellowship and thankfulness. Each term, Skylark class leads worship, sharing stories, prayers and moments for reflection.
Courageous Advocacy: We encourage children to ‘let their light shine’ by becoming active citizens and positive role models. Each term, Skylark complete a Courageous Advocacy project, such as leading a whole-school recycling initiative, helping to develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility for the world around them.
