Space Makers

At Lower Heath CE Primary School and Nursery, the Space Makers programme, a resource from the Diocese of Oxford, is designed to nurture the spirituality of our children, helping them to flourish in a supportive and reflective environment. Accessible to pupils of all faiths and worldviews, this initiative encourages children to engage in contemplative practices, fostering a sense of inner peace and personal growth. Through activities that promote mindfulness and self-awareness, children are empowered to develop their emotional and spiritual wellbeing, laying a strong foundation for their overall development. Additionally, for those who are open to it, the program offers opportunities to build a deeper connection with God, enriching their spiritual journey.

Incorporating five contemplative practices, Space Makers helps schools embrace the ancient wisdom of the Christian tradition, assisting children in navigating the world around them. This is particularly important in addressing issues like climate anxiety and the negative impact of increased screen time and social media exposure on young people’s mental health. By integrating these practices into the life of our school, we aim to support our children’s overall wellbeing and resilience.
