Meet our Team | Mrs Kirk

Our meet the team continues, this time we are shining the spotlight on our wonderful Skylark TA and Pastoral Support: Mrs Kirk

“Hi! I’m Gemma Kirk and I am a Teaching Assistants in Skylark class. Alongside my role in Skylark class, my other role is Pastoral Support. This means I get to know children and their families across the school – this is something I love about my job!

I absolutely love working with children, but it wasn’t my first venture! I initially left college wanting to be an equine veterinarian -due to my love of horses and horse riding- and worked for many years at a local equestrian facility.

In 2016, after working as a teaching assistant for a few years, I qualified as a teacher. I was lucky in securing a job in a lovely, small rural primary school, which only had three classes and a nursery. I started my NQT year teaching a mixed class of Years 2,3, and 4 for two years. I then moved into a mixed class of Years 4,5, and 6 where I stayed for a further 4 years. I also had many other responsibilities across the school, including assessment and maths lead and I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge!

In 2022, I had my amazing little boy, Archie, and from there I decided to take a step back from teaching, and went to work within a local nursery for a year. However, I knew in my heart that I missed being in a school and when the job at Lower Heath came up, I applied! When I came to look around Lower Heath, the warm and welcoming, friendly atmosphere was evident, and I knew it would be somewhere I would really enjoy working.

Outside of teaching, I love spending time with my husband Joe, my little boy Archie and our two crazy dogs: Coco the Springer and Shadow the Collie! We like walking together and exploring new and different places, but you’ll more than likely find me climbing around the soft play after Archie!”
